Many homeowners have reported that their home restorations and repainting jobs have deteriorated soon after because so many painters don't recognize or repair damaged areas before painting, like wood rot. They simply painted over those problem areas, leaving homeowners with a big mess and bigger expense in the long run.

San Francisco Renaissance Painting is one company that puts the effort into proper prep, including repairing damaged areas before painting, and they back it up with a warranty of 5 years for their standard good jobs and 10 years for their premium jobs, which include additional coats of paint and wood or metal restoration, even though the industry requirement is only one year.

A Professional Restoration & Painting Company

We spoke with San Francisco Renaissance Painting owner Tony Canaleti to find out why his company is able to spot and repair damage that other painters ignore. It turns out that it's because San Francisco Renaissance Painting is experienced in painting and home improvement, and that they specialize in lead abatement, basic carpentry and sheet metal work, including repair and replacement of worn and damaged areas of your home's exterior.

"Wood that is in bad shape won't hold paint, no matter how good the paint is or how great the application," explained Tony Canaleti. "That's why we do a thorough evaluation of each home before we paint and then repair or replace any existing damage."

This also saves you time and expense because you won't need to hire additional contractors to do repairs and replacements before your painting contractors can begin. And because San Francisco Renaissance Painting has more than 30 years of experience repairing and repainting homes, their restoration methods outlast those of other companies.

Tony Canaleti describes the process. "When we do exterior home repairs in preparation for painting, we use materials that are commonly used to repair wooden boats which need a watertight seal and are constantly subjected to moisture. So you know those materials will outlast anything you could buy in a paint store. And when we replace damaged wood siding and ornamentation, we know using the right wood is the most important part of your restoration, so we always use cedar or redwood-hardwoods that are beautiful and last for a long time. It costs us more but we do it because our customers come first."

Experience Matters

Because they've been painting homes in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area for more than 30 years, Tony Canaleti and his crew are experienced with all types of interior and exterior painting jobs. "We've done an enormous number of every kind of job you can imagine. We've painted 10-story buildings all the way down to small cottages and everything in between," says Tony. "We've restored more than 500 historic homes and have painted the interiors and exteriors of more than 2,000 residences, along with multistory and multiunit buildings all over the Bay Area."

Instead of a company that does cheap work that fails after a few months, you want a professional painting company that combines the best paints and the best workmanship to bring you the best quality painting job. Bay Area homeowners have trusted San Francisco Renaissance Painting for 34 years.

All painters are required to provide a minimum one-year warranty, but while other painting companies warranty their work for up to four years, it's rare to find a painting company that warranties both labor and materials. Likewise, many paint manufacturers claim their paints last between 15 and 25 years, but even their lifetime paint warranties only cover materials, not labor, which is usually the costliest part of a painting job.

"You want your paint job to last a minimum of 5 to 10 years, and San Francisco Renaissance Painting & Restoration will provide you with that warranty for both labor and materials," Tony Canaleti says. "And our customers know that our paint jobs last that long. We have a long history in San Francisco, and our customers are welcome to visit jobs we did more than a decade ago that still look great."

All San Francisco Renaissance Painting workmanship is covered by a five year guarantee, and most homes qualify for their 10-year warranties. "Our premium job usually requires additional coats and possibly but not always some metal or wood restoration. Homes that have substrates that are in good condition, including those that we've repaired and renovated are covered by our 10 year warranty," Tony told us.

Award-Winning Color Consultation

Tony Canaleti moved from New Jersey to San Francisco in 1972. While working as an artist in Ghirardelli Square to support his family, Tony fell in love with the Victorian homes in the city and began using his art degree to create bright color schemes that brought back their vintage charm.

"I did some research and found out that Victorians were originally painted in four or five different bright colors in the 1800s. After the 1906 earthquake, it was faster and cheaper for homeowners to repaint them in one or two plain colors," he explains. "But in the 1970s, the colorist movement was in full swing. I was one of the people who helped spearhead the movement to repaint hundreds of these historic Victorians in vibrant multicolors."

Tony's work was even highlighted in the 1978 book Painted Ladies-San Francisco's Resplendent Victorians that first documented the colorful renovations of those Victorian homes.

Now, Tony Canaleti lives in Marin County, in Mill Valley CA, just 15 minutes from his San Francisco shop. He still enjoys sculpting, stone carving and painting, skills he honed while studying design and fine art at San Francisco State University. "My trained eye gives me the upper hand when it comes to color consulting and helping my customers design the best look for their homes," he says.

Tony has won several awards for his color consulting, including those at the Painted Ladies competition, and he continues to help homeowners in San Francisco CA and around the world choose the best colors for their homes.

So take advantage of the San Francisco painting company with full expertise in restoration and repair of problem areas, as well as painting. With the experience of thousands of painting jobs and home restorations in the San Francisco CA area, San Francisco Renaissance Painting is an obvious choice as the professional painting company that can make beautiful work of any size job.
